Maths Maestri is an online mathematics tutoring service for learners in Grades 8 to 12 (and selected other grades), operating in South Africa. This website provides interactive lessons, video lessons, quizzes, tests and progress tracking.
For the purposes of the Protection of Personal Information Act 4 of 2013 (POPIA), the responsible party is Mr Binca, trading as Maths Maestri, contactable at mathsmaestri@gmail.com.
In this document, "we", "us" and "our" mean Maths Maestri. "You" means the person using the site — whether that is a learner, or a parent or guardian acting on a learner's behalf.
By creating an account or using this site, you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the site.
We provide access to educational content and tutoring support. We work hard to make our content accurate and aligned to the South African CAPS curriculum, but we do not guarantee any particular academic result, mark or outcome. Our content is a study aid — it does not replace school attendance or your teacher.
You agree that you will not:
We may suspend or close an account that breaches these terms.
All lessons, videos, quizzes, tests, worked solutions, branding and site material remain the intellectual property of Maths Maestri. You are given a personal, non-transferable right to use them for your own learning only.
Where tutoring fees apply, these are agreed separately with you. Access to paid content may be suspended if fees are not up to date.
We aim to keep the site available at all times, but we cannot guarantee uninterrupted access. We may update, change or remove content at any time.
We may update these terms from time to time. The "last updated" date at the top of this page shows when they last changed. Continued use of the site after a change means you accept the updated terms.
These terms are governed by the laws of the Republic of South Africa.
Accounts are created using an invite code issued by us. Sign-up is not open to the general public — an incorrect or unrecognised code will not create an account.
Each learner chooses a 4-digit PIN. This PIN is your key to your account. Please:
We never store your PIN as plain text. It is stored only in a securely hashed form, which means we cannot read it or tell you what it is. If you forget it, we reset it rather than recover it.
This section explains what personal information we collect, why we collect it, what we do with it, and what rights you have. It is our notice in terms of section 18 of POPIA.
We only collect information we actually need to run the tutoring service. We do not sell personal information, and we do not use it for advertising.
Most of our learners are children under the age of 18. POPIA gives the personal information of children special protection, and generally requires the consent of a competent person — normally a parent or legal guardian — before a child's personal information may be processed.
During sign-up, a parent or guardian must tick the consent box to confirm that they permit the learner to join Maths Maestri, and that they accept these Terms of Use and this Privacy Policy. We record the fact and the date of that consent. Without it, an account cannot be created.
If you are a parent or guardian and you would like to withdraw that consent at any time, contact us at mathsmaestri@gmail.com and we will close the account and delete or de-identify the learner's personal information, subject to any records we are legally required to keep.
If you believe a child's account was created without a parent or guardian's permission, please contact us and we will act promptly.
| Information | Why we need it |
|---|---|
| Learner's name and surname | To identify the learner's account, personalise the dashboard, and mark and return their work. |
| Grade and subject | To show the correct curriculum content, lessons and quizzes for that learner. |
| 4-digit PIN (stored hashed) | To let the learner sign in securely to their own account. |
| Parent or guardian contact number | To contact the parent about the learner's progress, fees, scheduling and account matters. |
| Parent or guardian consent record | To record that the required POPIA consent was given, and when. |
| Assigned tutor | To allocate the learner to the correct tutor for marking and support. |
| Quiz and test results, and time taken | To track progress, identify weak topics, and recommend what to study next. |
| Messages sent through the site | To provide support and communicate about lessons. |
We rely on the parent or guardian's consent as our lawful basis for processing a learner's information, and on the performance of our tutoring agreement with you where fees and lessons are involved.
We take reasonable technical and organisational measures to keep personal information secure, including:
No system can be guaranteed to be perfectly secure. If a security compromise affects your personal information, we will notify you and the Information Regulator as required by section 22 of POPIA.
We keep a learner's information for as long as the account is active, and for a reasonable period afterwards so that progress records remain available if the learner returns.
If you ask us to delete an account, we will delete or de-identify the learner's personal information, except where we are required by law to keep certain records (for example, financial records).
Under POPIA, you (or a parent or guardian on a learner's behalf) have the right to:
To exercise any of these rights, email us at mathsmaestri@gmail.com. We do not charge for reasonable requests, and we will respond as soon as we reasonably can.
If you are not satisfied with how we have handled your personal information, you may lodge a complaint with the Information Regulator (South Africa), whose current contact details are published at inforegulator.org.za.
